Juan, two, three, four ... was how a friend I had at school in Geneva, called Chris Geiger, would joke about my name. Because Americans would pronounce my name "Wan". So it sounds like "one, two," etc - in case you hadn't got it...
In England my name sounded more like "Koann", and in France it's "Roanne". All this because the spanish sound "jota" doesn't exist in those countries, so they've got to approximate it with something that their mouth is used to producing. It'd probably teach one a lot about national characteristics to study the various sounds each language uses and their equivalents in other tongues. But luckily for you I'm not a linguist ...
Now that you know why I've called the blog the way I have, maybe you'd like to know what it's supposed to be about. If I chose that name, it's mainly because this is going to be about my musical activities, i.e.:
- playing in various places in Paris
- double-bass lessons I give
- various types of work I'm engaged in for the residency of the Compagnie du P'tit Matin in Saint-Ouen (93)
- some of my highly original thoughts.
Unfortunately for most of you, the blog'll be in two languages, French & English, according to my whim and to which tongue feels more comfortable at the time. This is the way I function in daily life, as a result of having moved around a lot in my youth between Anglo-Saxon and French cultures - even though my mother tongue should be Spanish, since my parents come from Argentina!
